The Médoc, a land of wines

Go and discover the world-famous vineyards of the Médoc. We are privileged to be in the heart of an extraordinary terroir allowing the production of wines whose reputation is well established. Wine enthusiasts, we will be able to advise you in your choice of visits and purchases. We also organise wine tasting initiations every week at camping Soulac-sur-Mer, a perfect opportunity to test your palate.

Between the estuary and the ocean, you will find little treasures. From the Grand Cru Classé 1855 to the Cru Bourgeois, passing by the large renowned château or the small family property, there are more than a thousand wine estates that exist in the Médoc, on 16,000 hectares and 8 appellations.

You will find the wines of the region on sale at the campsite’s grocery shop or on the menu of our restaurant Les Frères Nicoll’s.

The lakes, nature reserves and marshes of the Médoc

In Gironde, we have many lakes, ponds and marshes. Sites conducive to the appreciation of natural sciences, walks or water sports.

The unavoidable:

  • The Lac Carcans-Hourtin is the largest natural lake in France. Its 2 km long developed beach and its 6,000 ha surface area are home to beaches hidden in the conches. It owes its wealth of protected species to the dunes and forests that border it.
  • The national nature reserve of the Cousseau pond is home to a diversity of landscapes that have been preserved. A nice hike awaits you over 7 km. Wooded dunes, wet baths and vast marshes will amaze your eyes. If you are there in the middle of summer, you will discover the sea cows that inhabit this marsh.
  • The directed biological reserve of Vire Vieille and Batejin is located to the south-east of the Lacanau lake which is 45 km from us, in Soulac-sur-Mer.
  • The Marais du Nord Médoc within a 15 km radius of Soulac-sur-Mer are also an opportunity to change your world. You will plunge into another atmosphere radiated by a lunar landscape, completely different from the ocean shore: the marais de la Perge in Vendays-Montalivet, the marais du Conseiller et du Logit in Verdon-sur-Mer, the marais du Baluard in Talais, the sentier du Marais du Gua in Talais.

Stretches of beach, the gliding culture

The Médoc has recently been called the Bordeaux California, a new appellation that suits it very well as our beautiful destination is reminiscent of the American coast. Why? Because here we change scenery whenever we want between lakes, swamps, forests, vineyards and beaches.

The whole Medoc coast from Lacanau to Verdon is a surfing destination where all surfing lovers will enjoy stopping no matter what their level is.

Waterman culture

To continue on this surfing culture, the waterman culture is very important on the whole Atlantic coast, especially in the Médoc and here in Soulac-sur-Mer: paddle, sup, pirogue, surf, prone, wakeboard, skate, kitesurf, windsurf. Here, when you love the ocean and sport, you can do anything.
For more information on what is available on the coast, please contact Médoc Waterman of Soulac, partner of the Pins Paradis Soulac campsite.

The Cordouan lighthouse

The Cordouan lighthouse is the oldest French lighthouse still in operation. It was classified as a historic monument as early as 1862, along with Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Its great architecture is the result of a long and tormented history that has made Cordouan a “Versailles of the sea”. It is a unique lighthouse in the world whose visit can only arouse wonder.

To get there, take the boat La Bohème from Le Verdon-sur-Mer – Reservation on 05 56 09 62 93 or on their website. To prepare your visit to the Cordouan lighthouse, please visit official website of the lighthouse.
