Our campsite is located in Soulac, one of the warmest seaside resort that you can find on the Atlantic coast. Soulac has a unique history. Its history remain mysterious before as a Gallo-Roman town. It then became an important port in the Middle Ages. The city was then a stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela and the pilgrims used to stop at Notre-Dame Basilica.
Gradually, the city was covered with sand and entered a period of decline. It was only at the end of the 19th century that the city got out of that dark period. The town reached its apogee with the fashion of sea bathing and became a seaside resort in the 1860s. From that period the town has inherited an exceptional grouping of 500 villas around the Basilica, now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In winter the village is quiet with 2.800 inhabitants, but in summer Soulac welcomes up to 50.000 visitors coming from all over the world.
Stay in Soulac for a while and enjoy the local way of life !
