Sunset in Soulac-sur-Mer in Gironde. Our Camping des Pins is situated in the town of Soulac-sur-Mer, one of the most charming seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast. Nestled in the heart of an historic village, discover its unique history. With a relatively little-known Gallo-Roman past, Soulac became an important port on the Gironde in the Middle Ages. The town was then a stop on the Way of St James, where many pilgrims stopped off at the Basilica of Notre-Dame, the magnificent church in Soulac-sur-Mer in the heart of the town centre.
Gradually encroached upon by the dunes, the town entered a period of decline from which it did not emerge until the 19th century. Soulac-sur-Mer reached its heyday with the rise in popularity of sea bathing and became a seaside resort around 1860. From this era, the town retains an exceptional collection of 500 villas, arranged around its basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A popular tourist destination
A peaceful village in winter with its 2,800 inhabitants, Soulac transforms into a huge melting pot in summer, attracting up to 50,000 visitors a day from all corners of the globe. Don’t miss the must-see sights and things to do in Gironde.
Architecture in Soulac
Soulac is dotted with villas and upmarket buildings in the ‘Atlantique’ style, built between 1890 and 1920 and known as les Soulacaises. A true haven for all lovers of the sea.
The surfer
We mustn’t forget that Soulac isn’t just known for its architecture or its cultural heritage. It’s also a town of board sports and sport, and forms part of the new Médoc Californian scene, being the second-largest town in the Médoc, after Lacanau.
Here, surfing is the most popular activity on our beaches; we have five surf schools covering all the spots in Soulac. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer, you’ll find the wave that’s right for you.
The Vélodyssée
Soulac is famous for the Vélodyssée, a 1,200 km cycle route along the Atlantic coast!
The village and its forests are signposted as one of the stop-off points in the Médoc for this cycling tour.
